Arts & Education Programs The Sunburst Foundation's arts programs are made possible in part by a grant from the Montana Arts Council and a grant from Montana's Cultural Trust. GED CLASSES GED instruction is open to anyone age 16 or older who desires to obtain a GED certificate. This programs is co-sponsored by Flathead Valley Community College and the Sunburst Foundation. THE KOOTENAI TRAIL The Kootenai Trail (KT) is a 7 1/2 mile long, non-motorized, hiking and biking trail that connects the Town of Eureka with Mariner's Haven Campground and Marina. Developed as a collaborative effort of the Sunburst Foundation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Forest Service, the KT offers a variety of terrain and scenic views along its length. The trail is easily accessed from Eureka's Riverside Park and Mariner's Haven as well as the Rexford Bench Campground, the Town of Rexford and the Pigeon Bridge Fishing Access. MISSOULA CHILDREN'S THEATRE The Sunburst Foundation partners with the Eureka School System to sponsor Missoula Children's Theatre, which provides a week-long residency "starring" 50-60 local students in a full-scale musical. All shows are original adaptations of children's stories and fairytales. By week's end, two full-length public performances are produced. MULTICULTURAL SERIES This October-April series presents topics about diversity and historical events through the utilization of guest speakers, performances and documentary screenings. As part of this series, speakers and artists not only present a community event that is free and open to the public, they also interact with local students. PERFORMING ARTS SERIES During the fall/winter months, a variety of professional, performing groups are brought to Eureka. During their stay, performers give an evening show and also lead workshops with local students. Season tickets with reserved seating are available. SCHAGEL PARK Enjoy a family picnic or playdate at this community park located behind the Town Pump in downtown Eureka. SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarships are available for local youth to participate in arts or cultural activities such as dance classes, art camp or music lessons. The fund also awards one scholarship to a graduating senior who will major in the arts. Fundraising activities held by the Sunburst Foundation help to create funds for these scholarship opportunities. SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARKS The Sunburst Foundation is the local sponsor for this event, which occurs every August at the Historical Village. A professional theatrical troupe gives a free Shakespeare performance for Tobacco Valley residents. For more information on these programs, please call 406/297-0197. |
